BUILDING WITH CURIOSITY SINCE 1997A little about me

The whole system.
And every little detail.

I’m Waqas, a software engineer with a career that began in 1997. I’ve built web applications, worked on telecom and billing platforms, connected healthcare systems, developed financial software and led development teams. Each has given me another way to understand a problem.

My work has taken me through the full life of software: designing it, building it, testing it and helping people use it. Today, I bring that perspective to AI solutions analysis — studying interactions, improving knowledge bases and supporting new AI initiatives.

I’m interested in what happens between an idea and a dependable system: the decisions, the edge cases, and the details that make it useful to someone.

A career built by doing.
And looking deeper.

From early web platforms to AI-powered services, my work has crossed industries and disciplines. These are the chapters that shape how I build today.

  1. 2025 — PRESENT

    Making AI more useful

Analyzing AI interactions to identify improvements, updating the knowledge bases behind responses and supporting the rollout of new AI initiatives. Bringing a developer’s understanding and a tester’s attention to detail to an evolving field.

    AI solutions analysis
  2. 2017 — 2025

    Understanding software in use

Moving from development into product quality and technical support. Manually testing features, writing and maintaining automated tests, then helping users work through problems in real installations.

Product testing · Test automation · Technical support
  3. 2010 — 2017

    Building for the web

Independent and product-focused development across custom PHP applications and WordPress projects. Work included web services, core plugin development, new features, bug fixes and theme integration plugins.

    Full-stack development · Plugin engineering
  4. 2004 — 2010

    Connecting complex domains

Building telecom and interactive voice-response services, healthcare integrations based on HL7 data-exchange standards, and software for currency exchange and remittance workflows. Alongside development, leading teams and managing product delivery and operations.

Senior engineering · Team leadership · Project management
  5. 1997 — 2004

    Learning the whole stack

Starting with web development, search and online trade platforms, then working on billing, connectivity and database migrations. System administration and an honorary lectureship added hands-on infrastructure experience, including a campus network of more than 110 computers.

EXPERIENCE IN CONTEXT

Real systems.
Real-world constraints.

A few kinds of problems I’ve worked on — each with its own moving parts.

01

Telecom & billing

Core billing applications, mobile value-added services, telephony and voice-response solutions, alongside connectivity and database migration work.

02

Healthcare data

APIs and content systems that connected participants across a health network, translating HL7 requirements into working software.

03

Financial workflows

A client/server currency-exchange application for a network of dozens of exchanges, plus leadership of core development for a remittance network.

Keep building.
Keep learning.

Formal study and professional certifications complement the lessons learned on real projects — across delivery, software, databases and electronics.

In the workshop

Woodworking takes me from furniture design and planning to making something tangible. It’s another way to think about structure, solve problems and work carefully with the material in front of me.

A good fit, a sound joint, a considered finish — small decisions add up, just as they do in software.

02

From code to circuits

My electronics background feeds a continuing interest in IoT: microcontrollers, single-board computers, MicroPython and PCB design. I enjoy the point where code starts doing something in the physical world.

Learning, experimenting and making things by hand keep that early curiosity alive.
